National Boxing Success for Beaverwood Student

Jenna O'Reilly who is in year 9 and at Beaverwood School for Girls in Chislehurst has successfully defended her National Girls' Boxing title in the 52 kilo class for 14 year olds. She first won the title last and successfully defended her championship last month, defeating her opponent by a huge margin of 33 points to 8, having giving her a standing count in the first round.

If Jenna wins again next year she will automatically be selected to box for Great Britain. She is already in the London Team and will soon box and represent London. Earlier this week, her coach received a phone call from the coaches of the Irish school' girls champion to see if Jenna would like to box her. This fight has been booked for October, and we wish Jenna every success in adding another title to her already impressive list of achievements.

National Recognition for Beaverwood Girl

Ellis O' Reilly has just competed in her first ever British Championships on Saturday 5th June 2010 in Gloucester.

The year 7 Beaverwood student was up against 44 other gymnasts, aged 12 and 13, from all over Great Britain. In her debut at this level, Ellis finished in a highly commendable 24th place. This means that Ellis is now ranked 24th in the whole of Great Britain for 12 and 13 year olds.

At this competition, the top 8 scoring gymnasts on each piece of apparatus go through to an apparatus finals competition, which is held on the 4th July 2010 at the Guildford Spectrum, to find out who will be crowned the apparatus champion on each piece. Ellis qualified in 2nd place on the vault and will compete at Guildford on these apparatus, where she will receive a Great Britain ranking.

She is very much looking forward to these finals and is very proud to have earned her place in the Great Britain squad.
