 English

The English Faculty is a very successful faculty, which regularly achieves outstanding results. For example, in 2008, 86% of students achieved A*-C in GCSE English Literature and 75% in English Language. In addition, for the fifth year running, students taking English Language, English Literature, Media Studies and Theatre Studies have achieved a 100% pass rate at A2.

Students are taught in 'mixed ability' groups in Year 7. In Years 8-11, the majority of students continue to be taught in 'mixed-ability' groups, but, in order to stretch our most gifted students, we have introduced two 'more able' groups in years 8-10 and one group in Year 11.

The English Faculty offers exciting opportunities for students to engage with the study of English. We participate in many enrichment activities such as the 'Jack Petchey Speak Out' challenge, 'Poetry Live' and theatre projects. English is an essential support to all parts of the curriculum and we work closely with other faculties to ensure that all students meet their potential.
